This has been one of our busiest summers in a long time! Our second Learn-to-Row session in July was filled to capacity once again—just like June—and we are excited to welcome quite a few new members to the club this summer.
July brought its fair share of humidity, but that didn’t slow us down. Open rows and sculling sessions were well attended, keeping our coaches busy and giving our members plenty of chances to refine both their rowing and their “boat jenga” skills (yes—moving, removing, rearranging, and storing boats in every possible configuration is a skill). Since MHRA is entirely volunteer-run, having such a dedicated group of coaches is truly a gift. We can’t say it enough—thank you, thank you, thank you!

In early August, our Yard Sale was a big success. A huge shoutout to our Yard Sale Committee, Anne Gardon, Katie Rivera, Gail Lahm, and Linda Rapp for their behind-the-scenes organization, and to all the volunteers who showed up to set up, clean up, and deliver leftover goods to local charities. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Coach Gail also brought back our annual Relay Race, teaming up rowers from MHRA and the Hudson River Rowing Association (HRRA), with some special guests from Cortlandt Rowing joining in this year. It was a lively morning of racing, laughter, and connecting with our “neighbors” right next door at the boathouse.

Even maintenance days turned into fun gatherings. We know the importance of taking care of our equipment, and nothing makes it better than wrapping up with well-earned snacks and treats.

Now, as the days grow shorter and the sun takes its time to rise, we’ll start adjusting our schedules to match—but we’ll keep rowing as long as the weather lets us. Knowing we’re on the downslope of the season makes every outing on the river that much more special.
