Summer Highlights at MHRA – So Far!

It’s been such a busy summer at MHRA, we’ve barely had time to catch our breath—let alone post a proper update! Despite the less-than-ideal weather (heat, rain, fog, and wind aplenty), our dedicated rowers have been showing up at the dock bright and early, proving once again that we’re a hardy bunch.

There’s been a lot to celebrate already, and we wanted to share a few highlights before the season slips away from us:

We kicked off our 75th anniversary in style, getting nearly 100 current and former members—and their friends and families—out on the water for a special cruise. It was a joyful tribute to the amazing people who have built and sustained our club over the years.

From there, we rolled right into our Learn to Row and Sculling Clinics. Our June Learn to Row group had seven fantastic students—three of whom have already joined the club! July’s session is full as well. The Sculling Clinic also sold out, and we’re excited to see some new faces on the river, now equipped with fresh skills and plenty of enthusiasm. Huge thanks to all our member volunteers for their time, energy, and warm welcomes. Yes, there were some rainy mornings, but as we like to say—rowing is a water sport.

In true MHRA fashion, we celebrated our LTR grads with a potluck breakfast. It was a great reminder that the camaraderie and generosity of our members are as much a draw as the sport itself.

On the racing front, our regatta teams have been busy. The Men’s 8+, Women’s 4+, and Women’s 8+ all competed at Row for the Cure, where the Women’s 8+ brought home a silver medal. Most recently, the Women’s 8+ struck gold at the Rockland Regatta—congrats, crew!

And when we’re not rowing, we’re still showing up. A group of members joined Candy and Bill Davies to “Pull the Tank,” a major fundraising event in support of veterans through the United Way of Dutchess-Orange Region.

There’s plenty more to come, and we can’t wait to see our new members—whether in sweep boats or sculls—out on the water. Here’s to calm days ahead (fingers crossed for no fog, no wind, and just a bit less humidity)!

Mid Hudson Rowing Association (MHRA), founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit rowing club located in Poughkeepsie, NY. Its mission is to promote safe practices for adult and scholastic rowing and to provide opportunities to enjoy the natural and scenic beauty of the Hudson River.
